How to Install the GuitUp Easy Hanger
The GuitUp Easy Hanger installs in under five minutes without drills, anchors, screws, or any damage to your wall. The video below walks through the full process. If you prefer to read the steps, they're listed below.
What you'll need
- Your GuitUp Easy Hanger (one per guitar)
- A clean, flat wall surface (drywall, painted plaster, or finished wood)
- A damp cloth for wiping the wall
- About five minutes
You don't need a drill, a screwdriver, anchors, or a stud finder.
Step-by-step installation
1. Pick your spot. Choose a wall location where the guitar can hang freely without touching furniture, door frames, or other guitars. Account for the full length of the instrument, including the portion hanging below the hanger.
2. Clean the wall. Wipe the mounting area with a damp cloth and let it dry completely. Dust, oil, or residue is the most common reason an adhesive mount fails. Don't skip this.
3. Place the hook into the wall. The hook makes one small pin-sized hole that carries the guitar's weight. No drilling, no anchors, no wall plugs.
4. Remove the backing. Peel the backing off the adhesive strips on the back of the GuitUp Easy Hanger.
5. Press and hold. Press the hanger firmly to the wall and hold for ten seconds, applying even pressure across the whole back.
6. Wait and hang. Wait five minutes, then hang your guitar by the headstock. Confirm it's seated before letting go.
Total time: about six minutes, most of it the five-minute wait.
How long does installation take?
About six minutes from start to finish. Most of that is the five-minute wait before you hang the guitar.
What walls does the GuitUp Easy Hanger work on?
The Easy Hanger is designed for clean, flat, finished interior walls: painted drywall, finished plaster, finished wood, and most smooth painted surfaces. It isn't designed for brick, unfinished concrete, textured stucco, wallpaper, or freshly painted walls (let new paint cure at least 30 days first).
Removing or repositioning the hanger
The hook's pin-sized hole fills with spackle in seconds and paints over just like a standard picture hook.
Troubleshooting
The hanger won't stick. The wall surface likely has dust, oil, or residue. Wipe it again with a damp cloth, let it dry fully, and reinstall with fresh pressure for ten seconds.
The wall is textured. The adhesive strips need a smooth surface to bond. For textured walls, sand a small flat area, or mount the hanger on a piece of finished wood and hang it traditionally.
The guitar feels loose on the hook. Confirm both yoke arms are seated under the headstock and that the hanger sat for the full five minutes before you hung the guitar.
Frequently asked installation questions
Do I need any tools to install the GuitUp Easy Hanger?
No. The Easy Hanger installs without a drill, screwdriver, anchors, or any other tools.
Will the GuitUp damage my walls?
The Easy Hanger uses a single small pin-sized hole, similar to a standard picture hook, plus adhesive strips that keep it flat against the wall. There's no drilling and no large anchor holes. When you remove it, the small hole fills with spackle in seconds and is painted over. Compared to traditional guitar hangers that need anchor bolts, the GuitUp leaves minimal marks.
Can I use the GuitUp Easy Hanger in a rental apartment?
Yes, with the same caveat as hanging a picture: the hook makes one small hole. Most rental agreements allow small nail and pin holes for hanging items, but check your lease. The hole fills and paints over easily when you move out.
What instruments fit on the GuitUp Easy Hanger?
Acoustic guitars, electric guitars, bass guitars, classical guitars, ukuleles, mandolins, banjos, and most other stringed instruments with a standard headstock.
